Comedian Alec Mapa to Cohost First Ever MISS GAY NEVADA AMERICA Pageant, April 27, Las Vegas

“America's Gaysian Sweetheart” Brings the Funny to Miss Gay America preliminary

On Friday April 27 in Las Vegas, multi-talented comedian and actor Alec Mapa, with drag legend Coco Montrese, will cohost the very first Miss Gay Nevada America pageant, a preliminary to Miss Gay America, the world’s longest running female impersonator competition.

In anticipation of the pageant, the Miss Gay America blog, MGAZINE presents this little Q&A with Mapa.

1 We know you’re no stranger to drag, from "Connie and Carla" to "RuPaul’s Drag Race," and likely more.
“YES!  I was also in drag on Broadway in M. Butterfly 7000 years ago. There's a cave painting of me in drag at The Museum of Natural History! This bitch is old!”

2 When was the first time you did drag?
“Gosh. Probably in New York City. I used to have a cabaret act where I'd dress up as Imelda Marcos and sing ‘High Heels Are a Girl's Best Friend.’  She was newsworthy in the 80's. People thought it was hysterical. You had to be there.”

3 What’s your drag name?
“Tallulah Frankhead.”

4 What’s been your favorite/worst drag experience?

Worst: “I once didn't tuck and one of my balls popped out onstage. Not cute. I mean my balls are super cute, but they didn't go with my dress.”

Best: “Filming ‘Connie and Carla.’ I was in drag dancing next to Debbie Reynolds (God rest her soul) which was gay dream come true.”

5 Were you familiar with the Miss Gay America pageant before you were asked to MC?
“I'm familiar with the Pageants and The Coronation circuit. So, I know how hard these queens work. I also know drag queens are the best fundraisers out there and are at the forefront when it comes to fighting for LGBTQ rights. Drag queens are real life superheroes. Always have been. Respect the Queens!!”

6 What are you most looking forward to at the pageant?
“THE LOOKS! Drag Race has upped everyone's game, so I know the girls are gonna turn one gag-worthy look after the other. I CAN'T WAIT!”

7 Will we get to see you in drag?
“Only on YouTube. I've played drag queens, but I'm not one in real life, because I'm too lazy to work that hard.”  “Everything I've ever been on is probably on Netflix or Hulu. ‘Ugly Betty,’ ‘Desperate Housewives,’ ‘Switched at Birth,’ ‘Jane the Virgin,’ etc. If you've seen a gay Filipino man overact on one of your favorite TV shows, it's probably been me.”

“SEE YOU SOON BITCHES!!”

The winner of Miss Gay Nevada America 2018, the theme of which is "Showgirl Couture," will go on to compete at Miss Gay America in St. Louis this October. The pageant will feature the current Miss Gay America, Deva Station. A donation from the pageant will be made to Be Brave Nation, a Las Vegas based organization that promotes "An inspiring approach to bullying prevention for youth of all ages."

Established in Nashville in 1972–37 years before “RuPaul’s Drag Race”–the Miss Gay America pageant is the world’s first, longest running and most prestigious female impersonator competition.
To date, over 10,000 men from over thirty states have competed for the Miss Gay America crown. www.missgayamerica.com

Miss Gay America 2016 Asia O’Hara is currently competing RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10.

Coco Montrese is a former Miss Gay America (2010) and competed on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 5.

In 2017 Lady Gaga was crowned the first honorary Miss Gay America.
